Safeguarding

Safeguarding is more than a protective measure—it is a core programmatic pillar that ensures every child, woman, youth, and vulnerable person in our communities is protected from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence. In a region affected by conflict and displacement, where social structures have been deeply disrupted, our Safeguarding Program provides a safety net for those most at risk. We ensure that protection is not just a concept but a lived experience across all touchpoints of our interventions.

This program delivers confidential case management, survivor-centered support services, and protection referrals for individuals exposed to violence or at risk of exploitation. We work directly in communities to build local protection systems, establish safe spaces, and engage community-based focal persons who serve as early responders and advocates. In addition, we conduct awareness campaigns and facilitate capacity-building sessions for caregivers, teachers, and frontline workers on child protection, GBV prevention, and ethical response. Every member of our team is trained on safeguarding principles, and every project we implement—from MHPSS to reintegration—integrates protective measures as standard. Through partnerships with traditional leaders, schools, and local authorities, we strengthen the systems that ensure safety, dignity, and justice for all. Safeguarding at Salama is not just a program; it is a commitment to uphold human dignity and accountability at every level of our work.
