Reintergration

Reintegration at Salama Centre goes beyond returning individuals to their communities—it is about restoring dignity, rebuilding trust, and reshaping futures. In Northeast Nigeria, many individuals—particularly youth, women, and children—have been associated with armed groups, displaced by violence, or stigmatized due to experiences beyond their control. At Salama, we recognize that successful reintegration is not simply physical but psychological, social, and economic. Our program is designed to offer holistic support to survivors and returnees as they rebuild their lives and reestablish their place in society.

The Reintegration Program combines intensive psychosocial support, livelihood training, community dialogue, and mediation services. Beneficiaries receive tailored counseling to address trauma, group-based resilience sessions, and peacebuilding education. We also work with local leaders, youth influencers, religious institutions, and civil society organizations to foster acceptance and reduce stigma toward those returning from displacement or conflict association. Special attention is given to vulnerable populations, including female returnees, child soldiers, and survivors of gender-based violence, who often face multiple layers of rejection and trauma.

Through close collaboration with families and host communities, Salama ensures that reintegration is safe, community-owned, and sustainable. We train reintegration mentors, facilitate family reunifications, and support participants to join cooperatives, enroll in skills training, or resume formal education. By embedding reintegration within broader peacebuilding and economic empowerment frameworks, we prevent recidivism, reduce marginalization, and contribute to long-term stability. At Salama, reintegration is a journey—and we walk every step with compassion, cultural sensitivity, and unwavering commitment to human dignity.
