Mental Health and Psychosocial Support
At Salama Centre, we believe that true recovery and reintegration begin with healing the mind and soul. Our Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) program provides trauma-informed care and psychological support to individuals especially women, children, and survivors of conflict who have faced displacement, violence, and severe distress.
Our interventions include one-on-one counseling, group therapy, community dialogues, psychological first aid, and structured psychosocial activities tailored to different age groups. These services are delivered by trained professionals and lay counselors using culturally-sensitive and evidence-based approaches. To ensure inclusive access, we provide mobile outreach sessions in hard-to-reach communities and facilitate confidential referrals for specialized care. Notably, we refer critical cases to trusted tertiary facilities including the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Maiduguri and the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu for advanced psychiatric and medical support.
Beyond clinical care, Salama Centre fosters safe spaces for healing, expression, and connection. Our MHPSS approach integrates traditional coping mechanisms, storytelling, and creative arts therapies—recognizing the power of community and culture in recovery. Whether it’s a young survivor navigating trauma or a parent rebuilding hope for their family, we walk alongside each individual with empathy, discretion, and commitment. At Salama, healing is not a service—it’s a right.
